Ernest Hemingway: "I never knew of a morning in Africa when I woke up that I was not happy."
I share Hemingway's exuberance because this has been my experience each day on every trip to Africa and I want this to be your experience too. Hemingway was referring to his days on safari in 1933. Vast, untamed expanses still remain to explore even though they have shrunk significantly since Hemingway's day. And, of course, there is more to Africa than safari. There are centuries of history, culture and empires. Tribal communities continuing to cherish their indigenous lifestyle. Some of the most pristine and sought after beaches in the world. Here is an overview of our Africa by region.
Africa is a vast continent - larger than the USA, China, India and Western Europe combined. We will guide you in determining what can realistically be accomplished within the time allotted and the accompanying logistical challenges.
From a tourism perspective Africa is segmented into North Africa, West Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. Africa's most notable demarcation is the Sahara Desert which is about the size of the continental USA and separates North Africa from the other nations with a suitable tourism infrastructure found in sub-Saharan Africa.
Perched on the Sahara, Egypt and Morocco are the North Africa nations attracting the most travellers. Egypt's ancient treasures have enticed the curious for centuries and an exploration of Egypt can be combined with Red Sea beaches, Jordan (Petra) or an East Africa safari. Morocco's historic sites predate the Romans, however, travellers delight in exploring the stunning former Imperial cities of Fes, Rabat, Meknes and Marrakesh and venturing across the Atlas Mountains into the Sahara and the land of the Berbers.

Safari Africa is grouped into East Africa and Southern Africa. East Africa is home to vast savannas and enormous herds of animals including the 2 million strong Great Migration roaming the iconic Masai Mara and Serengeti in Kenya and Tanzania. Meanwhile chimpanzees and Silverback gorillas inhabit the mountains of Rwanda and Uganda. Additionally, East Africa boasts Ethiopia with remnants of three ancient civilizations and the most UNESCO World Heritage sites Africa. Ethiopia can be either a stand alone journey or combined with a safari.
Southern Africa constitutes a plethora of safari scenarios from sophisticated South Africa and Botswana to more adventurous Zimbabwe and Zambia who share Victoria Falls. Namibia is where stunning geological scenery, authentic indigenous people and the most successful wildlife conservation in Africa are to be found. More rustic, off-the beaten path safaris or secluded beach stays occur in Mozambique and Malawi. The world's fourth largest island, Madagascar, has sights and unique wildlife found nowhere else on earth. |
Many travellers choose the end their safari by unwinding with a few days of rest and relaxation (R&R) before returning home. For the beach and marine enthusiast the warm Indian Ocean caresses nearly 5,000 miles of coastline and beaches from Kenya to Mozambique and South Africa and spawns exotic coastal islands such as Lamu, Zanzibar and Benguerra. Hundreds of miles off the coast lie the idyllic gems Mauritius and the Seychelles enticing travellers to stay longer. Or for R&R with an Arabic flair consider a stopover in Dubai, UAE.
West Africa appeals to those in search of history and authentic indigenous cultures with perhaps a taste of safari. Americans tend to be attracted to vibrant Ghana and Senegal which bear the scars of the infamous slave trade. Seasoned safari travellers are drawn to the jungles of The Republic of the Congo to glimpse lowland gorillas and other unique wildlife. Wherever you choose to travel on the African continent, we have the experience, knowledge and wisdom to guide you. |
"Africa changes you forever, like nowhere on earth. Once you've been there, you will never be the same. But how do you begin to describe its magic to someone who has never felt it? How can you explain the fascination of the vast, dusty continent, whose oldest roads are elephant paths? Could it be because Africa is the place of all our beginnings, the cradle of mankind, where our species first stood upright on the savannahs of long ago?"
