Save Time and Money with our Expertise
Perhaps the first thing you should know is that tapping into our expertise and working with us shouldn’t cost you anymore than if you Do-It-Yourself (DIY) and may cost you less than a DIY while giving you more options and saving you a tremendous amount of time. As a professional planner I have access to travel vendors who do not work directly with individuals. Our value lies in giving you more alternatives and guiding you in your choices.
We begin the planning process with a complimentary 30-minute consultation to answer your questions and get to know one another. Once we decide to move forward together, we become a team to custom craft the ideal trip for you. Planning starts by constructing a day-by-day itinerary fitting your needs and desires. Next that itinerary is developed into a full proposal that gives a clear picture of your trip along with the cost as guided by your budget.
There is an upfront, non-refundable Activation Fee of $300* or $500** depending upon the length of the trip and complexity. Should our work together result in you booking your journey with Safaris & Sojourns, then 50% of the Activation Fee will be credited toward the final payment on your trip.
The best place to start when planning travel is with a budget projection. Travel experiences are available at a range of costs points from moderate to deluxe/luxury to extravagant. We need to agree that your budget is appropriate to meet your expectations. Also, we’ll want to know how firm your budget is or if there is some wiggle room for something you may want to splurge on?
Aside from a safari, most of our journeys will include lodging, sightseeing/tours, transportation within the itinerary and some meals. A safari should be more-or-less “all-inclusive” with few exceptions. A complete safari program will include lodging, game drives, park/conservancy fees, guides, sightseeing, most meals with some or all beverages. Laundry may or may not be included. On a Safaris & Sojourns safari most everything will be prepaid before you go, thus while on your safari you should expect to spend only for gratuities, souvenirs and items of a personal nature. Additionally, Travel Insurance is strongly recommended and is compulsory for most safaris. Each of our journeys provides you with the security of having a competent local contact in-county to assist you should any issues arise.
Safaris are not inexpensive because of all the included components and the cost to supply and operate camps and lodges in remote areas. The three main factors impacting the cost of a safari are Seasonality (time of year), logistics, and the most important “Location, Location, Location”.

For two people sharing, a moderate budget safari in National Parks, staying in hotel-like properties, during low-season may start around $450 per person per day. A more exclusive safari staying in lodges or tented camps (Eco Chic and Luxury 4*-5*), including some private conservancies, will range from $650-$1,200+ per person per day. Utilizing the most exclusive and upscale safari properties (Ultra-Luxury 5*+) will cost from $1,500-$3,000+ per person per day. We'll search for any incentive discounts which could lower these budget guidelines. Some journeys in Southern Africa may have a lower average per diem because a portion of the trip may include non-safari city stays. While destinations such as Botswana and Namibia skew toward an even higher per diem because of the exclusivity, remoteness and logistics. These budgeting guidelines are for the safari portion of the trip only; not including the roundtrip airfare to Africa.
